Oger

Oger is a Dutch menswear retailer with top Italian brands.

Oger came to me and some other designers, through Flatline Agency, with the idea to create an immersive experience for in their showroom that would tell the story of Oger. It would be a leadup to their metaverse store.

This would later also be featured during an exposition in Amsterdam.

How did I go about it?

The goal of this project was to design a immersive experience that could be featured in a retail store showroom that would tell the story of Oger.

To start off, I and the other designers got a tour through the store to get a feel for what Oger meant as a brand. During our time here we documented things about their style, the look of their interior, their interaction with customers and even things like the smell of the store.

First I and the other designers held a concepting workshop with the managers of the store to see what kind of ideas we could come up with. After some trial and error we had come up with a few different ideas. Why we started with this is because the managers initially had a very clear idea of what they wanted; A hologram. But me and the other designers didn’t know for sure if that was the best way to go for this project.

So next up we once again asked about what they wanted to achieve with this concept, now having thought about some different options besides a hologram. The conclusion here was that they wanted to showcase the craftsmanship behind their suits and the story of the origin on Oger. Because of this we eventually came to the conclusion to step away from the idea of the hologram and instead use their own product as a projection screen.

After that, I and the other designers held a concepting workshop with the managers of the store to see what kind of ideas we could come up with. After some trial and error we had come up with a few different ideas. Why we started with this is because the managers initially had a very clear idea of what they wanted; A hologram. But me and the other designers didn’t know for sure if that was the best way to go for this project since they didn’t give us much of anything else. So this exercise was also to see if they could give us more context about their plans for this installation.

So next up we once again asked about what they wanted to achieve with this concept, now having thought about some different options besides a hologram. The conclusion here was that they wanted to showcase the craftsmanship behind their suits and the story of the origin on Oger.

Because of this we eventually came to the conclusion to step away from the idea of the hologram and instead use their own product, a suit, as a projection screen to present the story of Oger through their product.

Next up was prototyping.

During this time we were doing research to decide on the different types of visuals to use and creating a script for a voice over (VO). Through prototyping we learned a few things, one of which was that using bright colours worked best. This meant that we ended up using images of Italy in broad daylight and clear images of mainly brighter fabrics or ones with high contrasting elements.

This eventually led us to preparing for the exposition at which we would showcase our design. For this, we created an environment using threads, needles, colour pallets and more you would find laying around in the store to add to the feeling of craftsmanship that goes into their suits. With the animation and VO running we were ready for the expo.

What I’m most proud of within this project is that I, and the other designers, didn’t just go with the first concept the client. I believe this would have limited our options very much and I believe we’ve put out a more fitting and interesting solution.

Below this you can find the full design document for this project. I recommend to either download the file or read in presentation mode. The file is in English.
